I pull out my calendar and count each day until December 1st. One hundred and twenty one days before I turn forty. It is probably not by chance that as the big day approaches, I find myself at a personal crossroads.
After eleven years at a beloved non-profit organization, I have decided to transition out of my role as Development Director to create a coaching and consulting practice of my own. After ten years in our home, my husband and I have determined to clear out the clutter, repaint and take care of all the things that are not working. And, after four years of trying to conceive, we are reaching to the miracles of modern science to try one last effort for a second child. It is a time of taking stock, daring change and new beginnings.
If all goes well, by the time I turn forty, I will have the foundation of a promising business, will enjoy a home that "rises up to meet me" (as Oprah would say), and will at long last be pregnant. Though I know not all will work out exactly as planned, I am truly hopeful and excited for the adventures ahead. I am determined to be present and appreciative of the transition process under way as I fulfill forty years of my life and commit to making my forties the best of my years yet.
And so, the first entry of a blog that I hope will chronicle the twists and turns as I approach and then experience the next decade of my life. A Fulfilling Forty first.
